Mission Statement

The QUASAR group is interested in following and contributing to the advances in the state of the art of experimental software engineering, as well as disseminating those advances in post-graduate level courses. We were pioneers in the introduction of experimental software engineering best practices in the Portuguese software industry.

To achieve these goals, our strategy encompasses a continuing participation in international scientific events, either as organizers or participants. For several years, we have been producing academic materials in the areas of software quality and experimental software engineering, as well as tools to support the conception of controlled experiments. It is also our objective to increase our participation in international research networks and consortia to foster the cross-fertilization of ideas, searching for complementary research strengths and interchanging researchers.

Research Threads

The QUASAR team has been working in the following research threads:

  • modularity reengineering of OO legacy systems based on cluster analysis;
  • component-based software engineering;
  • design by contract complexity evaluation;
  • complexity assessment and estimation for object-oriented design;
  • software process improvement;
  • formal definition of metrics and their empirical validation to support the above mentioned activities.
