Doctoral Symposium

Introduction

The UML'04 Doctoral Symposium is the first Doctoral symposium in the UML Conference series. The Doctoral Symposium seeks to bring together PhD Students working in areas related to UML and modeling in general. It will be held in parallel with the remaining workshops. It is a full-day workshop.

Selected students will have the opportunity to present and to discuss their research goals, methods and results within a constructive and international atmosphere. The symposium is intended for students who have already settled on a specific research proposal and have some preliminary results, but still have enough time remaining before submitting their dissertation, so that they can benefit from the Symposium discussions.

Submission Procedure

Each participant provided an abstract of his/her doctoral work. The abstract should not exceed 8 pages in the LNCS conference-proceedings style and should:

• cleary formulate the research topic
• outline the significant problems in the field and its current solutions
• present any preliminary idea, the proposed approach and the results achieved so far
• point out the contributions of his/her work

The abstracts were submitted electronically to

All submissions were in either in PDF or PS.

The topics were the same as those of the main conference. These topics included but were not restricted to:

• model transformations
• lessons learned from modeling
• tool support for any aspect of modeling or model use
• models in the development and maintenance process
• model evaluation, formal or informal
• metamodeling
• model-driven engineering
• semantics of modeling languages
• domain-specific and concern-oriented modeling

Review process

Submissions were judged on originality, significance, technical merit, presentation quality and relevance to the conference topics. Each paper wasl be reviewed by, at least, two senior reviewers. 10 students were accepted for presenting their work at the Symposium. Participation is open to all submitters.

Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings and made available on the World Wide Web.

Notification of acceptance: August 9th
Hard Deadline for camera ready version: September 15th
